Semi-trailer burns on A4: large-scale operation by fire brigade and police!
On Monday morning there was a threatening incident on the A4 motorway between the Glösa and Chemnitz-Ost junctions. The rear tires of a semi-trailer caught fire there. The fire brigade and police then had to temporarily completely close the motorway to extinguish the fire, which led to a significant traffic jam of more than twelve kilometers between Hainichen and Chemnitz. The bypass roads and feeder roads in the nearby towns of Frankenberg, Oberlichtenau and Hilbersdorf were also affected MDR reported.
The good news: The tractor was able to be uncoupled from the semi-trailer in time and the driver remained uninjured. It remains unclear whether there were any injuries. Fortunately, the road in the direction of Erfurt is now completely passable again.
Cause of fire unclear
The exact circumstances that led to this fire remain a mystery. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing as firefighters battled the flames using heavy breathing apparatus using C-pipes. The subsequent extinguishing work should not be neglected either, as can be seen from a similar situation from February 2024. At that time, a semi-trailer also burned on the A61 near Frankenthal, and the federal highway had to be completely closed to extinguish the fire. In this case too, the cause of the fire remained unknown Localo reported.
In Germany, the causes of fire are varied, and according to a study by the Institute for Loss Prevention and Loss Research of the public insurers, by Statista published, a clear trend cannot always be identified. Whether mechanical or human errors are the cause of such incidents is examined in detail.
A further increase in fires in commercial traffic could prompt those responsible to take action and lead to preventive measures. Until then, all road users can do is adapt to the current situation and, if necessary, choose alternative routes.
