29,000 euros for a new neighborhood project in Döbeln-West: That's how it works!

A fresh wind is blowing in Döbeln-West! The local Treibhaus association received funding of 29,000 euros from the German television lottery. This is a significant step for the community because the neighborhood project aims to bring people in the district together and actively shape the living environment. The official project start was on July 1, 2025, and the anticipation is great.

The neighborhood project follows the previously successfully implemented “WerkStadt” project, which was supported over three years. Leon Grünig, who gained important experience during the “WerkStadt” project, is now responsible for the implementation and has discovered the opportunity to take advantage of a funding guideline for neighborhood development. Framed from the train station to the flood basin and including the monastery meadows, the quarter includes both new buildings as well as renovated and unrenovated old buildings, which creates a colorful mix.

Together for a better coexistence

But what exactly does the funding achieve? In accordance with the goals of Treibhaus e.V., the focus of the project is on encounters, the enhancement of the cityscape and a deep socio-spatial analysis. Particular attention is paid to families, young people, seniors and people with a refugee history. At a time when there is a lack of meeting places and a strong sense of community, the project is exactly the right way to capture the needs of residents and connect them with one another.

  • Geplante Aktivitäten in der ersten Projektphase:
  • Veranstaltungen
  • Quartiersrundgänge
  • Sprechstunden
  • Offene Treffs
  • Beteiligungsformate

As Stephan Masch from the German Television Lottery emphasizes, such projects offer a valuable opportunity to sustainably improve everyday interactions. The support not only secures personnel costs for project management and material costs until mid-2026, but is a strong sign of solidarity for the German communities.

A look at the numbers

The total costs of the first project phase amount to around 36,500 euros - an amount that is well spent in developing a viable concept for long-term neighborhood work. The German Television Lottery has now distributed 50 million euros to over 300 social projects nationwide in 2024, including 2.9 million euros for 22 projects in Saxony alone. It remains to be hoped that Döbeln-West can also benefit from this wave of support.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the television lottery players whose commitment made it possible for Treibhaus e.V. to start with such a strong tailwind. Especially in an environment where people from different backgrounds come together, any initiative that promotes exchange can only be seen as a benefit for the community.

For anyone who wants to get involved or find out more about the project: Applications for funding for such social initiatives can be submitted at any time, and the board decides on the applications received twice a year. Treibhaus e.V. has the right instinct to create a strong community project here. We can't wait to see what the next steps will bring!
