New life for Bad Düben's daycare centers: conversion comes faster and cheaper!

Something is happening in childcare in Bad Düben! Around 100 interested people visited the construction site of the new fairytale land and sparrow house daycare centers and were visibly impressed by the progress. The renovation, which began in 2023 according to plans, is being carried out by the city of Bad Düben together with funding from the federal and state governments. In total, the renovation costs amount to around 7.1 million euros, with around three million euros already being installed. Mayor Astrid Münster is pleased about the faster construction progress than expected, as the children could possibly move in as early as May. That's a reason for joy for all families!

The new facility will offer space for around 250 children and will combine the fairyland and sparrow house daycare centers under one roof, although both will continue to operate independently. The fairytale land will be located on the ground floor and the sparrow house will be located on the upper floor. A central children's kitchen, an inner courtyard with a terrace, a separate crèche area as well as sports and exercise rooms are planned - that sounds like a great place for the little ones!

Reconstruction and financing

The project is financed through urban development funding from the federal and state governments as well as the city's own contribution. In recent years, the federal government has invested more heavily in child day care in order to promote equal opportunities for children and support the compatibility of family and work. Since 2008, over 750,000 childcare places have been created, and Bad Düben also benefits from these initiatives.

For the current situation in the Spatzenhaus, significant changes to the spatial structure are planned during the renovation work. New access corridors are being built for group rooms and toilets, and the heating and electrical systems are also not untouched. The redesign is scheduled to be completed by September 2026. Especially in times when the number of children is declining, Bad Düben is showing with this project that you can also think in other directions.

The families are excited

On site you could also see how the little ones were looking forward to the new premises. Four-year-old Jack and his father were very excited about the construction site. Despite their skepticism, educators like Julia Fuchs and Anna Deutrich are also optimistic that the new daycare structures will benefit the children. Former educator Vera Mittelfeld is also interested in the developments and sees many improvements in the new facility, which will certainly create a positive atmosphere.

With the renovation of the Spatzenhaus and the associated redesign, Bad Düben is not only living up to its responsibility for early childhood education, but is also showing that the city is ready to break new ground and make childcare future-proof.
