Schkeuditz 2035: This is how we want to shape transport, culture and living space!

What's happening in Schkeuditz? This large district town in the district of Northern Saxony is facing several challenges. With a strategic location on the White Elster River, just 12 kilometers northwest of Leipzig, the city is feeling the growth in terms of traffic, the housing market and the needs of its citizens, especially young people. Today we are on July 14, 2025 and we look to the future - the year 2035 is already being passionately planned.

Five committed citizens have outlined their ideas for Schkeuditz. Oliver Gossel from the Green Party's Rad-AG dreams of a car-free city center in which pedestrians and cyclists have more space. In order to achieve this goal, he suggests, among other things, a traffic barrier on Ebertstrasse. An expanded cycle path network and improved connections through sustainable bus connections should make Schkeuditz more lively. Car sharing offers could also be a big advantage in this regard, as Gossel emphasizes.

Cultural diversity and the housing market

The city's cultural offerings are not neglected, as Sabine Adolph from the Villa Musenkuss cultural association says. She sees great importance in stable financing for cultural projects, especially given the increase in young families in the city. The goal: create exciting programs for children and young people in order to offer them an attractive environment.

Mohamed Omran from the Children and Youth Council (KiJuRa) has a comprehensive vision. He sees Schkeuditz as a city that is not only ecological, but also digital and sustainable. He would like to see more meeting places and outdoor sports equipment for young people. To this end, he is actively involved in garbage collection campaigns to promote awareness of a clean environment.

On a culinary level, Lutz Horst Köhler, a local restaurateur, is calling for more home-style cooking in Schkeuditz. He criticizes the dominance of the snack bar culture and advocates supporting catering businesses through targeted support. He particularly emphasizes the need to revive the empty Ratskeller and breathe new life into it.

The path to sustainable urban development

The approaches to sustainable urban development are diverse. According to bne-portal.de, Schkeuditz is focused on preserving green spaces and strategic land use. These initiatives also include improvements to public transport and the creation of urban services. Schkeuditz is a dynamic urban center with a good transport network and a non-conformist way of life.

The city has the opportunity to be a role model for others when it comes to sustainable solutions. Citizen participation is at the heart of the planning. It is clear: Schkeuditz has big goals and would like to continue to grow in the coming years - both in quality of life as well as in cultural diversity and ecological responsibility.
