Wolf from Saxony devastated Troisdorf: sheep and goats torn!

A wolf from Saxony recently caused excitement in Troisdorf after he was held responsible for the death of a sheep and three goats. On April 4, 2025, the animals were found dead, and genetic analyzes confirmed that the cause was actually a wolf from the surrounding area of the famous Marienburger pack. This information comes from a research project by the Federal Nature Conservation Office, which also shows that wolves can cover up to 70 kilometers per day, especially if you leave your parental pack.

The Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia confirmed the identification of the wolf and informed the public about the events. The wolf has apparently already left the federal state because it was already spotted in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, where it was demonstrated in mid-April and May 2025. On April 29, 2025, another alleged wolf at the Eudenbach airfield was observed, probably looking for food.

Current wolf stocks in Germany

A look at the current figures shows that the wolf is on the rise again in Germany. According to T-Online, currently 1,601 wolves in Germany. This is an increase compared to the previous year, in which there were only 184 packs. The wolves are particularly represented in the federal states of Brandenburg, Lower Saxony and Saxony, where the majority of the pack is based.

This count also contains 46 wolf pairs and 19 sedentary single wolves.
