Big celebration for the organ consecration: Grumbacher Church will have a new sound on November 9th!
In the tranquil community of Grumbach, a year-long project will finally be crowned on November 9th. The new organ, which was manufactured by the Dresden organ building company Wegscheider, will sound there for the first time. What's special is that it will be completed almost four months earlier than originally planned. Jonathan Auerbach, a representative of the project, emphasizes the excellent quality of the new instrument, which is equipped with 28 registers, two manuals and a pedal. The predecessor of the new organ was completely decommissioned in 2017, leaving a considerable gap that is now being closed. High-quality materials ensure that the new organ not only impresses in terms of sound but also visually. Saxon reports on the preparations for this festive occasion, which is of great importance not only musically but also collectively.
The organ project has deeper roots: As early as January 7, 2024, the church interior was gradually prepared for the new generation of organs after the old Grumbacher organ had been dismantled. The construction time of less than three years shows how serious the community is about its project. Many of the new pipes even come from the former Jahn organ. The Wegscheider-Orgel Grumbach e.V. association organizes events beyond the consecration that take place on a donation basis and thus benefit the entire community. Wilsdruffer Land Church emphasizes that there is also the possibility of purchasing certificates for pipe sponsorships with a donation of 100 euros or more.
Donate to the good cause
The Grumbacher community has really developed a good hand when it comes to fundraising. Donating to organ projects is a widespread phenomenon in Germany, with around 50,000 organs in the country waiting to be replaced. Creativity knows no limits: from organ concerts to sales campaigns to pipe sponsorships – the possibilities for generating financial resources are diverse. Sunday paper presents seven creative fundraising ideas that demonstrate how communities can be supported to preserve their musical treasures.
The organ project in Grumbach is an example of how joint efforts and commitment can lead us out of a crisis. The upcoming concert promises not only an acoustic experience, but also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen community.
