Full closure in Heidenau: Müglitzbrücke will be renewed in 2026!

renewals and construction work are currently a big topic in Heidenau. The Müglitz Bridge on the S172, which was built in 1974, has recently attracted a lot of attention. A comprehensive cover shear renewal is on the plan for 2026, but a full closure during this work is inevitable. This will have a significant impact on the traffic between Dresden and Pirna, such as Sächsische reported.

building tests bring light into the darkness of security. The next regular examination of the Müglitz Bridge is also scheduled for 2026. During the last exam in 2023, the bridge was provided with an assessment of 2.8, which reflects a "sufficient" state. For comparison: The Carol Bridge in Dresden received an assessment between 3.0 and 3.4 in 2021, which is considered "not sufficient".

older bridge is torn down

Not only the Müglitz Bridge is the focus, Deutsche Bahn also currently has projects in Heidenau. The demolition of a bridge over 100 years old in the Großsedlitz district has already begun and is said to be completed by February 8, such as TAG24. This track crossing previously served as a connection to industrial companies, but is no longer in use.

The demolition work brings temporary restrictions on rail traffic. On February 4, train traffic at the Heidenau-Großsedlitz station will be discontinued between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m. Travelers must therefore adapt to a reduced timetable, especially in the S-Bahn operation, where stops and delays can be expected.

The meaning of the bridges

With around 10,000 buildings along the federal highways, state and district roads in Saxony, the State Office for Road Construction and Transport has the task of regularly checking them for their safety. These include bridges, support buildings and tunnels. In this context, extensive building tests are carried out to ensure the statics and safety of the buildings.

The Müglitz Bridge plays a central role in the traffic between Dresden and Pirna. With regard to the planned changes, residents and travelers in the region have to prepare for an intensive time. It is to be hoped that the measures will take place quickly and smoothly and that the connection between the cities will soon be available again for everyone.
