Motorcyclist seriously injured: Drama on the B 81 in Netzkater!
Last Saturday, several serious motorcycle accidents occurred in Germany, once again putting the safety risk for motorcyclists in the spotlight. A 46-year-old biker from Bad Wildungen lost control of his motorcycle on Bundesstraße 81 in Netzkater around 1:20 p.m. The accident occurred on a left-hand bend when the driver skidded and left the road. He ended up lying behind a safety barrier and sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. Rescue workers immediately took the injured person to the Südharz Clinic. The motorcycle suffered a total economic loss of around 5,000 euros. In order to record the accident scene and treat the injured, the B 81 had to be completely closed for around 20 minutes. The police have already started investigations into the exact causes of the accident, as Tixio reports.
But that wasn't the only incident that day. Already in the morning, around 10:15 a.m., there was another serious motorcycle accident in the Passau district. Here, a 38-year-old driver from Ruderting overlooked a 20-year-old motorcyclist from Tiefenbach at the intersection of Fischhauser Straße and Ruchtastrasse. The biker was also seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital. The car that caused the accident also had to be occupied by a five-year-old toddler, who fortunately only suffered minor injuries. The material damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros. According to PNP, such accidents are not uncommon as motorcyclists repeatedly find themselves in dangerous situations.
Motorcycle accidents in Germany
Current accident statistics show that motorcyclists are exposed to a significantly higher risk than car drivers. According to the ADAC, the almost 4.7 million motorcycles registered in Germany have a four times higher risk of being involved in an accident. In addition, the accident rate for bikers is seven times higher. Although the number of fatal and seriously injured motorcyclists has been declining since 2000, their proportion of road fatalities remains worryingly high. Every year, over 500 bikers have fatal accidents and almost 10,000 suffer serious injuries, as ADAC reports.
A closer look at the causes reveals that almost every fourth serious accident outside of urban areas involves a motorcyclist. Solo accidents are particularly common; in 47% of cases they are caused by driving errors and in 39% by excessive speed. Incorrect speed or an overtaking error are often the trigger for collisions. It is therefore important for bikers to always pay attention to safety: protective equipment such as helmets and gloves are essential, and regular vehicle checks and driving safety training should be on the agenda. This is the only way to minimize the risk of serious injuries.
Last week's tragedies remind us of the importance of driving safely and responsibly. Motorcyclists should therefore pay particular attention to their driving technique and safety precautions in order to enjoy life on two wheels as carefree as possible.
