Future workshop in Meiningen: daycare children ready for school!

The transition from daycare to primary school is a crucial step in children's lives. Fears and worries often characterize the first steps into this new world. A future workshop, organized by the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, will offer the opportunity to exchange experiences about this important transition on November 8, 2025. The event under the motto “When I grow up – success factors for a successful transition from daycare to primary school” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hall of the Meiningen district office, Obertshäuser Platz 1. Not only specialists from daycare centers and primary schools, but also interested citizens of all generations are warmly invited to get involved and find out more. According to Rhoenkanal, the event is supported by the prevention chains, a project dedicated to promoting participation opportunities for children in the district.

Why is the transition from daycare to elementary school so important? This first intensive transition often accompanies children throughout their lives. It brings with it new roles, expectations and also fears that affect everyone involved - be it the educational professionals, teachers or parents. Preparations should be targeted to make this process as smooth as possible. This includes actively preparing preschool children for school in their last year of daycare so that they not only start well equipped but also enjoy going to school. There are many options for organizing the transition and can range from crafting activities for school cones to parent evenings. According to Educator Training, specific activities such as creating a preschool folder or practicing how to get to school are also recommended. In addition, the exchange between kindergarten and primary school is of great importance in order to ease the transition, for example through visits or sponsorship programs.

The role of parents and professionals

Parents are particularly challenged during this transition phase. They have to get used to their new role as parents of a school-age child and give their children security. To facilitate this process, it is important that adults, including teachers and therapists, work closely together. Parents’ opinions and experiences enjoy great trust. Parents often have very specific expectations when it comes to preparing their children for school, focusing on practical skills. Skills such as being able to dress and undress independently, hold a pen correctly and the ability to concentrate are at the top of the list. Developing these skills is crucial to giving children a successful start.

The future workshop in Meiningen offers an excellent platform to discuss such topics and develop concrete strategies. In particular, the event aims to create awareness of the needs and challenges associated with this transition. Early and well-structured preparation can significantly reduce stress for the children, but also for the parents, and help ensure that the start of school is a positive experience.

Interested parties can register with the organization by email to m.simshaeuser@lra-sm.de by November 4, 2025. This event is not only an important step in education, but also a valuable opportunity for parents, professionals and the community to come together and find solutions.
