Insolvency drama: mbw group closes location in Hartha – 20 jobs lost!

In today's news from the economic landscape, the mbw group from Rheinmünster is making a name for itself. On March 1, 2025, the company filed for bankruptcy and is now facing major challenges. As a large surface refiner for metals, the mbw group is struggling with the current economic development and rising costs for materials, energy and personnel, which is putting a considerable strain on the liquidity situation. This economic imbalance has led to the company filing for insolvency for various operating and non-operating companies, such as Schultze & Braun reported.

The mbw group employs a total of around 300 people and has several locations in Germany, including Lichtenau, Einbeck and Hartha. However, the location in Lichtenau was successfully handed over to Arthur Henninger GmbH and will continue to operate since August 1, 2025. On the contrary, the Hartha location, where around 20 employees will lose their jobs, is scheduled to close on October 31, 2025. This decision was announced to employees on July 15, 2025 after a major customer relocated its orders at short notice.

More locations on hold

The Einbeck location is scheduled to close its doors by August 31, 2025. Discussions about the future of the locations in Rheinmünster, Mühlhausen and Sömmerda are ongoing, and insolvency administrator Dirk Pehl expresses cautious optimism that potential investors could be found. Even if the economic outlook is uncertain, the mbw group's business operations are currently running without restrictions: orders continue to be produced and delivered

.

With the insolvency applications, the mbw group is pursuing the goal of securing its liquidity and striving for a realignment. It is a hard time for this traditional company, which has been a leader in electroplating and chemical surface finishing since 1987 and primarily supplies companies in the automotive and construction industries.

The mbw group will now do everything in its power to secure the remaining locations and possibly make a new start soon.
