The Hans Renner Cup is named after the well-known ski jumper Hans Renner, who invented the plastic mat for ski jumps in the 1950s and thereby revolutionized summer training. Renner, born in 1919, had an outstanding career as a coach and was instrumental in the success of the GDR ski jumpers.
