Erfurt youth guitar ensemble impresses at the German Orchestra Competition!

An exciting event in the music scene: The youth guitar ensemble from the Erfurt Music School won big at the fourth German Orchestra Competition. Under the direction of Holm Köbis, the approximately 25 volunteer musicians showed that over the last two decades they have always been able to secure a place among the top three youth guitar ensembles in Germany. The competition took place from June 14th to 18th, 2025 in Wiesbaden, Mainz and Ingelheim in the Rhine-Main area and attracted around 100 amateur orchestras from various musical areas, including plucked, brass, accordion music and jazz. It was a real feast for the ears!

The premiere was particularly pleasing for the plucked orchestra, which performed under the direction of Christian Laier. After an intensive two-year preparation and rehearsal phase, this commitment was rewarded with a second prize and the rating “Outstanding”. The festival concert “20 Years of Youth Guitar Ensemble” in the Erfurt Town Hall Festival Hall marked the highlight of this achievement and was recognized with great applause. The ensemble, which was founded in 1991 as the “Thüringer Zupforchester Musikschule Erfurt”, regularly contributes to the cultural diversity in Erfurt.
