Federal President Steinmeier welcomes diplomats in MV – A relaxing day!
In the heart of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the time has come for today, June 24, 2025: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has invited people to the annual “country party”. 161 international ambassadors traveled to this special event to gain an insight into the charms and diversity of the federal state. Most of them have agreed, including Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD), who will accompany the diplomats. How stern.de reports, the tour offers a mix of business, culture and maritime flair.
The first item on the program takes the diplomats to visit the Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH factory in Waren an der Müritz. Ship propellers are manufactured here - an important industry for the region. After this insight into the industry, lunch is planned at Ulrichshusen Castle. The event will feature speeches by Steinmeier, Schwesig and Archbishop Nikola Eterović, the doyen of the diplomatic corps. dpa emphasizes that Ulrichshusen Castle not only shines through its historical significance, but also stands as an example of German-German integration.
A place with history
The castle now houses a hotel and serves as the central venue for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, which is considered the state's cultural flagship. Originally the von Maltzahn family home, the castle was expropriated after the Second World War and burned down before the fall of the Berlin Wall. In the 1990s, Helmuth von Maltzahn bought the ruins and had them rebuilt, creating an impressive cultural monument.
After lunch, a harbor tour in Warnemünde will be on the program. This will give diplomats the opportunity to experience the maritime flair of the region at a reception on the German Navy's sailing training ship "Gorch Fock". dpa reports that the castle and the “Gorch Fock” symbolize the connection between tradition and modernity that characterizes Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
A look back and forward
The Federal President has been inviting people to this information and meeting trip every year since 1996, which always takes them to a different federal state. The aim is to present Germany’s regional diversity. The diplomatic trip to Brandenburg took place last year. With this event, Steinmeier not only shows the beauty and possibilities of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but also reinforces the importance of international relations.
The personal touch that Steinmeier provides for his guests is part of his commitment to strengthening cooperation between nations. Rooted in this tradition, one can expect that the diplomats will leave with a lasting impression of the state's warm hospitality and cultural diversity. Every visit is not only a journey through the region, but also through the history and values that bind Germany - a good step on the path to mutual understanding and cooperation.
