Chemnitz at bicycle climate only with grade 4 - citizens demand change!

In the current rating of the bicycle climate, Chemnitz received grade 4, which is equivalent to a clear sign of action. According to the recently published study by the ADFC bicycle club, 81 percent of the cyclists surveyed in the city feel unsafe when driving. This survey shows that the city lags far behind compared to other Saxon cities such as Dresden and Leipzig, such as Radiochemnitz.de

The results on the traffic situation are particularly alarming: 79 percent of cyclists perceive the general mood in road traffic as aggressive, and only 18 percent state that they are overtaken by cars with sufficient distance. These factors contribute to a climate for cycling in Chemnitz, which has not improved significantly in the past two years.

bicycle climate test shows weaknesses

The bicycle climate test, which was carried out by the ADFC, aims to capture the satisfaction of the cyclists in Germany. As part of this test, cyclists were able to evaluate the bicycle friendliness in their municipalities in a questionnaire from September to November 2024. The results published in spring 2025 should in particular support traffic planners: inside and political decision-makers to improve the infrastructure for cyclists and evaluate the promotion of cycling, so bicycle climate-test.adfc.de .

For this year's survey, a high number of participants is expected - the last test recorded around 245,000 participants. This year too, questions about security on the bike and about each other are asked in traffic. The survey also serves as feedback to the cities, which can thus receive concrete information to improve their cycle path structure.

A call to participate

The ADFC calls on all cyclists to participate in the next survey. The test begins on September 1, 2024 and runs until November 30, 2024. With the help of over 27 targeted questions, each participant can bring in their experiences and perceptions. The survey is available on the website ADFC.de . These feedback are crucial to improve the cycling experience in the cities and to strengthen cycling.

The results of the test can be excited. You could help to ensure that problems that were identified in Chemnitz are not only visible, but also incorporated into the political discourse. After all, cycling should be fun and be sure!
