Cooking together in great-grandma's kitchen: an experience for the whole family!

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Viadrina Museum invites you to a very special event: “Cooking and enjoying together in great-grandma’s kitchen”. From 11:00 a.m., children aged 6 and over accompanied by adults, as well as teenagers and adults, have the opportunity to feast and learn in a historical setting. The highlight of the day will be the preparation of a delicious vegetarian potato soup in an authentic kitchen from shortly after 1900, equipped with original kitchen furniture and cookware. Anyone who wants to take part should hurry up, because the number of participants is limited to 12 people and the participation fee is 7.50 euros per person, including soup.

Anyone who would like to register for the event can do so by Monday, October 20th. Registrations can be made by phone on 0335 4015629 or by email registration@museum-viadrina.de possible. For press inquiries, please contact Halina Muchow on 0335 401560 or by email Halina.Muchow@museum-viadrina.de available. The Museum Viadrina offers a wonderful opportunity to combine traditional cooking with a social experience.

Cooking as an experience for the whole family

Cooking with children is more than just preparing meals; it is an educational activity that encourages little ones' curiosity and joy of discovery. At the event in the Viadrina Museum, participating children can discover fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices. According to Children's Cooking Course, there is no fixed age limit as to when children can help in the kitchen. Rather, tasks can be adapted to the children's abilities. This means babies can observe and smell, while older children can help with cutting solid ingredients.

The right instructions are very important. When cooking with small children, it is advisable to take special precautions to minimize the risk of aspiration. Small children should therefore be kept away from small, hard foods such as nuts or large seeds. Practical tips and great recipes can be found in the Recipe database for families, which are suitable for both children and adults.

Why children should be in the kitchen

Cooking is not only a practical craft, but also has many positive effects on children's development. These include improving motor skills, strengthening social skills and acquiring knowledge about food and its origins. Quick experiences of success are important for the fun and pride in cooking. Simple recipes such as smoothies or fruit salads can help children take their first steps in the kitchen without being overwhelmed.

In the Viadrina Museum, the communal experience is enhanced by cooking and enjoying together. Families are invited to spend a day that not only delights the palate, but also promotes togetherness. If you enjoy cooking, you've come to the right place!
