Festival Tanz Modern Dance inspires Chemnitz with international artists!

The Chemnitz Opera House will become the scene for dance enthusiasts in the near future, because from June 18 to 29, 2025 the “Tanz Modern Dance” festival will take place there. This international festival for contemporary and urban dance has been attracting numerous spectators since its foundation in 2015 who are happy to be enthusiastic about creative and innovative performances. Festival manager Sabrina Sadowska, who is also a ballet director at the Chemnitz Theater, has put together a varied program that takes place not only in the usual venues, but also in unusual places in the city.

This year's motto "C the Unseen" has been elected on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture year and is intended to encourage to sharpen the view for the unusual. The festival aims to creatively lead through public space and is a real pleasure for all those who want to look outside the box. In addition to impressive guest performances, workshops and hands-on activities that actively include the audience are planned.

highlights of the festival

Special highlights are a three -part ballet evening for the opening and the performances of the Bavarian Junior Ballet from Munich in the Chemnitz Opera House. Interested parties also have the opportunity to take part in a free, two -hour bike tour to better get to know the various venues.

An extraordinary event will be the world record attempt on June 21. This is about gathering the world's largest ballet class. At least 1,600 participants are aimed at to exceed the current record of 1,530. Registrations are possible in advance on the website of the festival.

cultural diversity and social issues

In order to make the festival particularly alive, a number of international artists, including dancers from Jamaica and the former cultural capital of Kaunas in Lithuania, are expected for the first time. Unfortunately, the Israeli Vertigo Dance Company had to cancel their participation at short notice due to the tense political situation in their homeland.

The festival offers a platform that reflects new perspectives in social cooperation. There is a mirror for Europe, in which unusual encounters take place in places that are often overlooked. It is a feast of movement and inspiration that chemnitz as a cultural capital of Europe is in the usual momentum.

The project "Odyssey in C", inspired by James Joyce's novel "Ulysses", celebrates its premiere on June 26th. Here visitors will experience short dancing deposits at different locations, while the grand finale will take place in the opera house. The event promises exciting impressions and extraordinary emotions for everyone involved.

More information about this exciting event is on the websites of MDR and theater Chemnitz. The "Tanztage 2025" in Berlin, which will also present contemporary dance, only underline the diversity of the dance scene in Germany, as can be read on berlin.de
